MMA SUMMER AND ESL CAMP 2007 … The Legend Begins! Summer and ESL Camp Instructors (commonly dubbed “CI’s”) gathered in MMA’s Conti Hall on Thursday, June 28 th, 1300 sharp…a collective bundle of enthusiasm, anticipation – a few rubbing their well-fed guts in reflection of the tasty mess served at lunch ( teriyaki chicken and all the trimmings!) . Military’s MGySgt Mike Krauss opened the Training Session, handing off to MMA Superintendent Colonel Glenn Hill, USMC (Ret). “How many of you have attended MMA Summer Camp?” Nearly every CI’s hand raised, including D.I. CWO3 Ed Harris’, drawing chuckles from all. “So, you all know about PATIENCE, and how important that is. As a CI, you will learn the next level of patience. This summer we will have more Summer and ESL Campers than last year. We want campers to learn to do things they have never experienced before, to grow, to have fun, and to have a good experience here at MMA.” Colonel Hill continues, “Safety is paramount…the camper’s safety, your safety – this comes first! HYDRATE!!! This is Southern Texas, and you all know what the weather’s like. Everyone needs to hydrate, and if you spot anyone, I mean ANYONE, showing the slightest sign of hydration, you WILL call the Medical Staff—they’re ALWAYS nearby—over to assist. UNDERSTOOD?” All freshly-shaven heads nod, even the full-fledged Drill Instructors…there is not a single doubt about it - these orders will be carried out, with patience and an abundance of good spirit abounding! OORAH, LEATHERNECKS, OORAH! Without wasting a moment, the DI’s and CI’s moved out to the sunny Back 40, getting “tuned” in on the many additions to the courses before campers arrive on Sunday, July 1 st. THIS IS DESTINED TO BE A GREAT, IF NOT THE GREATEST, SUMMER AND ESL CAMP…EVER!!! The Legend begins…stay tuned for many photographic updates!
